ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring

Create an excellent foundation for a career in development or as an independent coach and mentor. Learners will carry out supervised coaching and mentoring sessions and review and plan professional development.

This is a highly practical, experiential and for many, transformational course which focuses on development and refining of coaching competencies, combined with learning tools, techniques and approaches.

Managers with significant responsibility for coaching and mentoring as part of your day-to-day role.  It will also support you if you are planning to move into a development role in your organisation or start a career as a freelance coach and mentor.

This course develops the key skills you need to advance your career.

This course covers advanced coaching interventions, ethics, the establishment of coaching programmes and the means of identifying and working with a diverse workforce.

Delegates will also explore individual learning styles, the ‘learning cycle’ and the ways in which psychometric and diagnostic tools facilitate learning within the coaching process.

The Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring is made up of three mandatory units which introduce the key aspects of coaching in the workplace:

'Understanding the skills, principles and practice of effective management coaching and mentoring', the role of coaching, basic coaching processes, and the qualities individuals require to be an effective coach are explored.

‘Undertaking management coaching or mentoring in the workplace' requires participants to plan and carry out at least twelve hours coaching with supervision and support.

'Reviewing your own ability as a management coach or mentor' provides participants with the tools to analyse and improve their own performance as a coach.

Two assignments will be completed by participants to demonstrate that they understand the principles discussed in the three mandatory units.

The course is delivered through a Virtual Learning Environment and features a range of resources, including:

  • Live remote delivery

  • Role Play
  • Feedback
  • Online materials from ILM
  • Q & A.
  • Online discussion board with other learners.

Culminating in the completion of 2 assessments:

  • 1 x work based improvement project
  • 1 x reflective review based on leadership performance and assessed presentation.

Learners will:

  • Know what it takes to be and effective coach in the workplace.
  • Understand good practice in coaching.
  • Recognise the difference between coaching and other development methods.
  • Understand how to use appropriate tools and techniques to stimulate, challenge and motivate others to achieve required outcomes.
  • Provide constructive and supportive feedback to support learning and performance improvement.
  • Utilise their new skills into by carrying out supervised coaching sessions.
  • Reflect on their personal coaching abilities and generate a personal development plan.
